WHY Wally-Hermés Yacht

The WHY yacht concept was created through a partnership between high fashion house, Hermés and yacht builder, Wally. The living space, built on three decks is intended to meet the human needs of space, light and shade with advanced sustainable technologies. The 58 metre-long 38 metre-wide, pared-down yacht is powered by a diesel electric engine that produces solar electricity to manage the boat.

Aeolus – Acoustic Wind Pavillion

Aeolus is a new architectural space designed for the public to contemplate the UK landscape; to make audible the silent shifting patterns of the wind and to visually amplify the ever changing sky. An investigation into acoustics, wind, architecture and light, Aeolus was inspired by Luke Jerram’s research trip to Iran where he explored the mosques of Esfahan and interviewed a Qanat desert well digger about his life. The well digger spoke of the wells singing in the wind.

Aeolus is designed to resonate and sing with the wind without any electrical power or amplification.

Once completed, the temporary building will tour the windy hill tops of the UK, before being installed as permanent artwork, somewhere in the UK. Unlike the prototype (see images above) the final artwork will have a steel internal structure that can be quickly assembled and disassembled on site. The tubes will then slot into this underlying framework.

9 Hours Hotel

The 9 Hours is a capsule hotel: a Japanese hotel concept with sleeping pods instead of rooms, and shared bathrooms. They target hard-working business people and travelers.

Usually, these capsule hotels are far from well-designed. The 9 Hours is nothing like that. Instead, it’s an amazing example of applied minimalism.

The 9 Hours is managed by Tokyo-based Cubic Inc., and designed in a collaboration with designer Fumie Shibata of Design Studio S.

Monocle recently did an excellent report on the hotel, which we have embedded here. (Thx, Peter!)

Spout

“Spout” is a concept for minimalist bathroom basin design that merges technology and style. The user simply places their hands in the bowl to activate the water with the desired temperature set via a small dial. There is also a manual override button housed in the centre of the dial that can be pushed for continuous water if you would like to fill the sink.

BOBA FETT ZX 800 ADIDAS IN BLISTER PACK

These are quite amazing and brilliant. Even thought there’s much disdain for George Lucas, let’s just forget the prequels never happened and go Boba Fett old school. Straight out of the Empire Strikes Back — the very limited edition adidas Originals ZX 800 Boba Fett S.W.s are perfect for hunting down Han Solo. Of course, the shoes come available in the toy-like blister pack.

Wedding ring that projects images

Working with local jeweller Tamrakar, this ring was created for the wedding of Luke Jerram and Shelina Nanji. An engagement ring that tells the story of the couple. In a small opening, you can put up to four slides that are projected through the stone ring with the help of a candle or lantern.

Phone on Board

This design originated from observation of the space around a telephone rather than the telephone itself. People make calls on the telephone and keep pens and post-its by its side to take notes, or they put down the receiver to busily look for stuff to take notes with while they are on a call.

Furniture Made from Shopping Carts

Los Angeles-based artist Ramon Coronado made furniture from shopping carts. He calls the project “Mercado Negro” and his ambition lies in “reclaiming an ordinary, everyday object and transforming it into a whole new object.” At the link, you can see many more pictures, as well as photographs from his workshop as Coronado constructed these pieces.
