UFO filmed hovering over Russian protesters

Some 25,000 pro-democracy protesters in Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square had an unexpected participant in their demonstrations on Saturday when a UFO was spotted hovering above the crowd.
Here is a somewhat blurry video capture of the scene, taken by a person in the crowd:
Several demonstrators in the crowd espied the hovering object, with reflecting blue and red lights. Descriptions of the object–which observers say was definitely not a helicopter–included “five extended tendrils or pylons emanating from the body of the vehicle.”

Urban beehive by Philips

The design of the beehive is unconventional, appealing, and respects the natural behavior of the bees. It consists of two parts: entry passage and flower pot outside, and glass vessel containing an array of honeycomb frames, inside. The glass shell filters light to let through the orange wavelength which bees use for sight. The frames are provided with a honeycomb texture for bees to build their wax cells on. Smoke can be released into the hive to calm the bees before it is opened, in keeping with established practice.

Unique Long Exposure Pictures by Terence Chang

Loving this series of long exposure pictures by terence chang. The collection of 16 photos, taken between July 13, 2008 and April 16, 2010, visually describe landing and take-off patterns for the airport. Yes those funny looking white streaks are all planes.

Personalised Portraits

George Dawe was an English portrait artist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

One talented artist using digital copies of these paintings as a basis for his own work which involves incorporating his friends, family and even some celebrities into the paintings using photoshop.

The City

The City from WTK Photography on Vimeo.

This timelapse is about a year in the making. I started sometime in June of 2010 and finished it on August 19, 2011. It wasn’t constant work of course, just working on it every now and then. I’d estimate I have invested anywhere between 250 and 300 hours on it. Most of this was time I spent walking, biking, or riding the bus to locations I was shooting. There are very few locations I used a car to get to. Total frame count is about 28,000 frames and 85 different shots. All the frames weren’t used in the final product as I edited down the clips. You will notice that some of the shots were shaky. San Francisco is a very windy city and even my heavy tripod couldn’t remain still. In hindsight I should have bought a different head. All photos were shot in JPEG and then some light editing in Lightroom. Compiled into .mov clips in Quicktime Pro and then all brought together in Final Cut Pro.

I started this project because there are so many people photographing the city that I wanted to capture it in a different way that most were not. Between the time I started and the time I finished, timelapses have become huge. It’s amazing to see what fellow artists can make with even the most basic equipment.
